AGULERI, St Joseph's Church: Holy Saturday/Easter Vigil Saturday, 3 April 2021
Christ yesterday and today. The beginning and the end, the Alpha and the Omega. All time belongs to him and all ages. To him be glory and power, through every age and for ever. Amen.
MY ENTRY FOR THE EVENT At 10.00pm, we began the solemn Easter Vigil celebration with the fire and candle service in front of St Joseph's Church Aguleri. Christ yesterday and today. Blessing of the fire. Blessing of the Easter Candle. The beginning and the end. The Alpha, and the Omega. All time belongs to him, and all ages. To him be glory and power, through every age and for ever. Amen. The procession into the Church began. Fr Mike Anyichie was the Easter Candle brearer. At the steps of the church, he sang the first LUMEN CHRISTI and all of us responded: Deo gratias. This was repeated two more other times before we entered the sanctuary. Then, Fr Mike sang the Exsultet. Very well executed in Igbo. Readings followed. Gloria in excelsis Deo. The Great Alleluia. There were no candidates for Baptism. Renewal of Baptismal Promises. Sprinkling of the Holy Water. Vidi aquam aquam egredientem de templo, a latere dextro, alleluia: Et omnes ad quos pervenit aqua ista, salvi facti sunt, Et dicent: alleluia, alleluia. The Roman Canon was used. The Church was full. We had a happy solemn celebration. O filii et filiae Rex caelestis, Rex gloriae morte surrexit hodie. Alleluia. At the end, I invited all the priests and the religious in the church to join me for a special early morning Easter bites. It was all Happy Easter wishes!
