ANNUAL FEASTDAY OF BLESSED IWENE TANSI
Saturday, 22 January 2022
Picture
At about 9.20am, I was at the Central Shrine of Blessed Iwene Tansi, Igboezunu Aguleri. Today we fixed the annual celebration of his feast. Many devotees were already in Arena before we arrived.
It was beautiful to observe that at different corners of the square, priests were seated engaged in hearing the Sacramental Confession of the faithful. This is appropriate because part of today's event is taking people to God.
While some people lined up for Confession was going on, many others were going group by group to venerate the relics of our holy man. I was privileged to touch the relics too.
At 10.30am, we offered Holy Mass. I presided, Mons. Emmanuel Nwosu (Postulator) gave the Homily and over one hundred Priests concelebrated. Religious men and women, Tansi Solidarity Movement members, Obu Gad cabinet, the People of God, came out in large numbers. Ad maiorem Dei gloriam.
In thanking the People, I remembered in a special way: Mons Eemmanuel Nwosu, the Parish Priest - Father Damian Obi - and his parishioners from St Francis Aguleri, Fr Innocent Udolisah, for preparing the venue and organizing the activities of the day. I mentioned Nwa Abraham, who often behaves strangely in public gathering but truly loves priests and constantly books Masses for them. While talking about RECDOT Ozubulu who were present for the celebration, I drew attention to the plight of the physically challenged people in our society. There must be conscious effort to consider them when building staircases in our churches and public places, during special celebrations, etc.
After the Mass, people rushed to the spot where the relics of our holy man was placed. Many took some sand from there. I had opportunity to go round the arena to greet those who came for the celebration. I remember with great joy when I went to the stand of the Solidarity Movement of Blessed Iwene Tansi, we danced and danced.
