THROUGH A CAMERA LENS
AGULERI, Father Joseph Memorial School Field
CATHEDRATICUM / CHRISM MASS FOR AGULERI REGION
Tuesday, 12 April 2022
Picture
At 10.00am, I was in the compound of Father Joseph's Memorial Secondary School for the Cathedraticum of Aguleri Episcopal Region. We should have had it yesterday, as in other years, but the threat of insecurity during "Monday sit-at-home", forced us to postpone it till today. The challenge we had was how to organise two  ceremonies at the same time and in two different regions (Aguleri and Iyiowa) of Onitsha archdiocese with one set of Oil vessels. Quickly, we arranged and bought new vessels for our celebration in Aguleri region.
When I arrived in the arena, I went round the field to greet representatives of different parishes that came for the celebration. It was a pleasant experience to see the faces of different persons I had met during my pastoral visits to the parishes in the region. I remembered the lyrics of the song by Miriam Therese Winter: God, give Your people love. / If we but open wide our heart, / You’re sure to do Your part, / and always the first to make a start. / God, give Your people love.
Arbor foeta alma luce / Hoc sacrandum protulit, / Fert hoc prona praesens turba Salvatori saeculi. O Redemptor sume carmen Temet concinentium. (On the fertile tree, the kindly / sunlight formed this offering, which, bowed down, your people gathered / to the ages’ Saviour bring. O Redeemer, hear the anthem which your gathered people sing). Solemn Eucharistic Celebration with the Priests and the People God in Aguleri Region (altogether 23 circumscriptions with attached institutions). Homily of the Holy Spirit. Renewal of Priestly Commitment. Blessing of Oils. Cathedraticum. What a joyful day and a happy celebration! Ad maiorem Dei gloriam.
