THROUGH A CAMERA LENS
AWKUZU, St Raphael's Church:
Bishop Otteh - Posthumous 60th Anniversary of Priesthood
-
Sunday, 25 July 2021
Picture
At 10.00am, I was at St Raphael's Church, Awkuzu, to recall the legacy of Bishop Emmanuel Otteh. The invitation to today's event read: Remembering a great Teacher, Mentor, Rector, Administrator, Pastor, Hero of our faith... Most Rev. Emmanuel Otteh! As a Priest, he touched ours lives. Please join us for a Mass of thanksgiving on the 60th anniversary of His Priestly Ordination.
Date: Friday, 30 July 2021.
Venue: St Raphael's Church, Awkuzu.
Time: 10.00am.
Fr. Emmanuel Otteh was the first seminarian I knew. When I was a child, he was visiting our home - Headmaster's house near St Raphael's Catholic School Awkuzu. My father was the headmaster of the school. I never knew that one day I would become a priest.
Using the occasion of the 60th anniversary of his Priestly Ordination, I wanted to highlight the fact that a great star passed across the sky of our own part of the world. By his life and words, this great man taught us many things. It is important that we reflect on his legacies in order to treasure them and make use of them. His motto was: "That they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent."
The Mass was very well attended. A number of Priests who knew him or were influenced by him joined us for the Mass. Mons. Hypolite Adigwe preached, while I was the chief-celebrant.
At the end of the Mass, we proceeded to the front of the Church, beside the field, where a giant Crucifix was mounted and blessed to commemorate this important event in honour of Most Rev. Emmanuel Otteh.
Lunch and interaction with Priests and some of the guests followed. In the coming days, we shall start putting together testimonies on the life and ministry of Bishop Otteh. We pray also for his eternal repose.
